Hitler was against atheism, just like Robespierre. And how different is the mandatory "state atheism" of the USSR different than the enforced Sunni Islam of much of the Middle East?

The contrast shouldn't be "theism vs. atheism", it should be societies that allow for people to hold their personal beliefs vs. those that'll kill you for not being a member of the "party".

Just because there were far fewer killed in the auto-da-fe's than during Stalin's purges, doesn't mean the inquisition was a grand time to be alive.
