Nope. The lack of balance between federal states is what caused the tension. Tito's greatest mistake was not forming a unitary state. It would have been much easier to obliterate national identities that way. It would also prevent that shitty system of government that arose after his death and only served to reignite ethnic tensions by adding a political component to them. For instance, Croats (the federal state of Croatia) got resentful because they percieved that their tax money was going to the capital, Belgrade (the federal state of Serbia) and never coming back. And that was one of the minor issues.

Every "communist" experiment is successful in proportion to its libertarian nature and to the degree in which workers actually have control (aka to the degree in which it is "real" communism). The range goes from North Korea (totalitarian dystopia) to the Soviet Union (extremely authoritarian) to Cuba (tame authoritarianism) to Yugoslavia (authoritarian with workers somewhat controlling the workplace) to Catalonia (semi anarchist).

no, our resentment realy was that we as one of the most developed states in the federation had to give moneys to belgrade and never got our share back, there were other issues for sure, but realy that was the main problem, that and of course that serbs went out of their way to impose themselves on every fucking council and institution and party congress and meeting of any kind, because after all were all yugoslavs and if you try to mention the problem using words that dont even exist in the discourse youre a stinking nationalist, but that could have been tolerated if they just shared the cake with us

if the 74 constitution was respected and each state got some economic and financial autonomy we wouldnt realy have anything to complain about, wed just do our thing, most people didnt mind living in ex-yu much, even today people remember it fondly, but in that case it would be serbia and macedonia and such 'underdeveloped' parts of the federation that would stirr shit up cause they wouldnt get enough moneys, places like croatia and slovenia with all their industry, agriculture and tourism would do fine

another reason why the whole thing broke up is because the party split up, milošević tried to dominate the whole party, so croat and slovene factions began to split to get out from under him

one way or another it makes no difference now, were no longer a industrialised nation, privatisation made sure of that, we might as well just sell ourselves to austria the way things are now
