Has humanity never recovered from the death of the Byzantine Empire?
From antiquity to the late middle ages, the civilised world was under one empire.
It's hard to propose a stupid idea such as democracy, socialism or free market capitalism when you're arguing against 1,000 years of tradition.
Human beings dislike chaos and lack of organisation, yet we're supposed to be happy with dozens of ethno states each with their own cast of idiot politicians.

>the civilised world was under one empire.
You can argue that the western civilized world was for a very short amount of time under one empire (Alexander the Great), but apart from that Europe and Persia were never united, not to speak about China and India
>It's hard to propose a stupid idea such as democracy, socialism or free market capitalism when you're arguing against 1,000 years of tradition.
is it?

So the Indian, Chinese, and Persian empires for some reason don't count?

>thousands of years of laboring as a peasant until death to feed an aristocracy of around 2% of the population while their language and culture is butchered
>now about 20% is undeniably first world while the rest is catching up to standards our ancestors never could have imagined in relatively homogenous nation states
Lets go back to the undefined empire, nationstates have been horrid

>burning down the city just because your favorite chariot racing team lost
Yeah, Byzantium was the height of civilization...

Hey several countries are reaching that kind of heights. Getting people in that level of decadence and indulgence takes some serious economical and social structure.

Green faggot detected. Blues rule.

>Yeah, Byzantium was the height of civilization...
Yes, if you lived in one of the urban centres
My point is, today we have people suggesting all kinds of stupid shit
Back then, one was arguing against many decades of tradition
How many resources are squandered contesting elections and having erratic public investment depending upon where a democratic ruler is in the electoral cycle
If you notice, grand & beautiful major public works, which lift the spirits of ordinary citizens, are rarely attempted in the democratic age, because there is no pay off for a politician 15 years from his retirement
Whereas an emperor would be proud to create a legacy for his offspring
