>Today is Yule
Debatable. The rites werent set on unified dates, sometimes the hunt went around during the nights around the new year, sometimes it is already thought to appear as early as october.
Wodan/Odin was also a god of death.
A lot of procession rites during fall in central europe are attributed to the wild hunt, often children ritually sing and beg for food, while carrying lights. Such processions are often lead by a rider/saint in upper germanic regions or simply told about figurativly and played after with a menangery of certain monstrous figures in the alpine region.
Rites with children are generally said to symbolize the ancestors taken by the rider into this world during winter so they can be ritually fed and pleased by taking the children as a substitute.
The wild hunt itself survived as a spook until the 18th century with many recorded sightings, peasant used to offer it milk and bread way up into christian times.
In some variations, the wild hunt hunts the women/female godess Holle, in others she is a part of the hunt.
I dunno about Yule, but Jul is on the 24th.
