Interesting factoid about Atlantis: Plato claims Solon learned this story in Egypt, and the Egyptian glyphs for 1,000 and for 100 are fairly similar. If you divide all the numbers Plato gives-- for the size of Atlantis, for how far away it was, and for how long ago the disaster happened-- you get a near perfect match for Minoan Crete.
