I want to read the really gruesome and authentic accounts of the Eastern Front in WWII. Like really horrific but real war stories of what the suffering was like. Does anyone have any book recommendations?
Theodor Plievier trilogy: Moscow, Stalingrad and Berlin my man

Leningrad: Siege and Symphony. Fascinating read if you're into the human and artistic effects of the war. There's some truly disturbing things about the NKVD operations and the siege, but it's a very powerful and ultimately triumphant book.

Soldiers of Destruction: The SS Death's Head Division, 1933-1945
Charles Sydnor
Starts out discussing the division's formation and structure. But after the first couple chapters it gets pretty gruesome.

I read a book about the Finnish SS volunteer division that fought on the eastern front. One of the diaries told about Soviet bush snipers that the Red Army would leave behind to cover their retreat. Sometimes in uniform and sometimes in plain civilian clothes. The diary mentioned how one of these snipers killed a German NCO and as revenge the Germans burned down a village they were in.
The roads in Ukraine were very dusty so that when motorized columns were moving from one point to the other, the soldiers needed to use masks to cover themselves from the dust.
That's about all I remember from that book.
