I'm not religious person, but what they are doing seems more like an attempt to flee responsibility for soviet crimes and make their soviet nostalgia seem good by spouting some shallow slogans.
No real conviction in it.
If they were truly "turning to Christ" they would abandon Communism altogether and say the USSR and Communism are evil.
