How many of you actually majored, or are majoring, in history? Are there any job prospects other than becoming a teacher or eventually a professor?
>history majors

it seems really comfy desu

this from a guy currently studying econ... considering the switch
Bumping because I'm currently choosing my major and I'm considering History but I don't want to be stuck teaching 6th graders about how the heteronormative patriarchy has oppressed POC and women throughout history.

Don't do it unless you're confident you'll sustain a 3.7+GPA and either go to grad school or grind through 15 years as a public school supply teacher.
If you aren't passionate enough to dedicate a significant portion of your early life as a PhD student or supply teacher, don't major in history unless you can get into a good law school (t25 only unless you're not american).
I don't recommend studying it, this is coming from a someone who majored in it.
Do something which will actually develop a skill which is always needed. I studied history and ended up becoming an accountant afterwards, feels like I wasted time.

History trained mechanic here.
Use my degree to help my wife in her writing.
25 Novels, 50 short stories in F&SF, so I am using it.
My dad's a bond trader. I was thinking of majoring in history since it seems to be the only thing I enjoy, and minoring in fiance or something if I can. He says he can teach me his job easy even though I'm awful at math. I might want to do something with computors but idk shit and again, math. Any advice? I'm 18.
I feel like I'm coming off as an idiot writing this but I feel so lost. I just want to go to a good college, do well, be moderatly successful, idk what go do.

Sounds like you can do whatever you want. Study history while learning your fathers trade, as was once the norm for upper class young men.
bumping for possible good history related jobs
seriously its the one subject i give a fuck about
Currently going into history after I get my associates in community college. Because I really have no idea what I'm doing and I wanted to at least get a degree in something, knowing full well I probably won't be going into history as a job.
I'm doing this as cheep as possible, may I add. First a community college and then a state uni withing driving distance of my place. I think I can avoid loans. Not going into debt for this.
You need a degree, any degree, to do anything these days.

*continued.
I'm also thinking about taking some computer classes, because I want at least some computer skills. Not looking into computer science stuff, more like maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
Scared of STEM, to be frank.
Done with the first semester of teaching, just waiting around and reading up one the exams
>tfw exam in 3 days
Overall it's a very comfy study and there'll be some low end government job I can apply for when I'm done, so overall not too worried.
I love history. I got my degree in it.
Worst mistake I've ever made. It doesn't pay, and what use is it outside of teaching? Do yourself a favor and get a degree in demand, or don't bother going to school.
Majoring in his and archaeology atm
