> The most influential of the Greek writers and intellectuals was Rigas Feraios. Deeply influenced by the French Revolution, Rigas was the first who conceived and organized a comprehensive national movement aiming at the liberation of all Balkan nations—including the Turks of the region—and the creation of a "Balkan Republic". Arrested by AUSTRIAN officials in Trieste in 1797, he was handed over to Ottoman officials and transported to Belgrade along with his co-conspirators. All of them were strangled to death in June 1798 and their bodies were dumped in the Danube.
What did the Habsburgs mean by this?

Political has always been more about maintaining power than standing for principles. I'm sure the ottomans and Austrians had an understanding about things like this.

That's the key point, not Christianity and Islam. The Austrian didn't want to have another enlightement revolution on their fucking doorstep, they were a reactionary monarchy deeply opposed to this shit.
He was literally a Napoleon's agent who published revolutionary shit smack in the middle of Austria and the Austrian officials captured him when he was trying to meet Napoleon in Italy. Then they handed him to the Ottomans because he was their subject by law.

Yeah, I'm sure an entity ruled by Greeks, Serbs, Bulgarians, etc would work well

Greece's downfall was pretty much the Ottoman empire and their inability to deal with them.
We have no idea how Greece would be if the Turks hadn't invaded Greece, they could have potentially been another Europian powerhouse but that is questionable to say the least.

Greece was basically what remained of the Eastern Roman Empire. The reconquest of Constantinople and Asia Minor (Megali Idea) was the prime objective of Greece before 1923.
>We have no idea how Greece would be if the Turks hadn't invaded Greece
The ERE would've survived longer, but it's doubtful if they would still exist since the Balkans were a shitfest before the Ottomans stepped foot there.
A better question would be if the Fourth Crusade never happened and the ERE stood strong, history would have a very different course.
