No, we would pose no threat to aliens with the technology necessary for interstellar travel, and it's hard to imagine earth having resources that aliens haven't already acquired elsewhere.

So it's hard to believe aliens would look at us enemies or competitors, given we're still stuck on earth. More likely they would look at us as animals, resources, or an "undiscovered tribe."

Look at our history, and where/when the biggest technological advances have come from. Theres no reason to think they'd be sensitive to us or cooperative with us.

if life exists on other planets their evolution was shaped by that planet, just as our evolution was shaped by Earth. It seems doubtful to me that they would find our planet readily habitable.

Any species that has advanced far enough to develop interstellar technology would also have had to face existential threats from advanced weaponry like nukes. If they managed to survive long enough to be able to travel to Earth without first wiping themselves out, there's a good chance they won't be dirty selfish primate scum like us.

There's a reason why we search for water when we search for alien life. The hydrocarbons upon which life is based are basically unique chemically, and require water and oxygen. There has never been a chemical arrangement discovered that exhibited the same potential for life as the hydrocarbons from which we are comprised.

So chances are that a planet rich in oxygen and water would be a good prize for just about any alien race.

The laws of physics being what they are, there's a limited range of chemicals than can support organic chemistry, or even something similar to organic chemistry.
Think of it this way: gold and noble gases are largely inert (very few chemical reactions will occur with them), so if you had a planet made of solid gold with an atmosphere made of noble gasses then no form of life could hypothetically appear there. It's an absurd example, but that's the general idea behind why we look for planets with very specific features.

Something I never see addressed in any sort of Sci fi but would be a huge problem is disease. Using the Columbus example, he was even from the same planet and still rocked the new world with infectious disease.
Our bodies are covered in bacteria that help us function but are completely suited to life on earth. So if we were to go to another earth like planet, thered be no way to tell at first if the local bacteria (on the planet and inhabitants) posted a significant threat to us. And if it did, the whole planet or species would be toxic to us. The same would be true of aliens visiting us, we could harbor disease they've never encountered and start a pandemic.
I've read that the distant future probably won't be like Star Trek (for many reasons), with suitless humans interacting freely with aliens and alien worlds. Which is kinda a shame

except thats incredibly unlikely. even on earth, we share a collossal amount of dna with every other species on the planet and yet there are many diseases that cant cross species. as such its entirely plausible to assume that alien bacteria wouldnt give us so much as a second glance.
