They seem to have a thing for getting genocided/persecuted.

they are miaphysites, i.e. the reject the council of chalcedon because they believe in a single nature of christ that is both human and divine.
they are mostly found in Egypt, Armenia, Syria and Ethiopia.

Also they have cool beards and hats.

liturgical languages vary among the different churches - Armenian in Armenia, Coptic in Egypt, Ge'ez (and Coptic?) in Ethiopia and Syriac (Aramaic) in Syria

The Ethiopian church is a special case because they historically only had a single bishop that was sent over from Egypt and represented their only connection with the wider christian world so they developed quite a unique form of christianity also adopting some jewish practices like circumcision.
