He's a medieval warlord brought up in the Ancient Regime, embraced the Revolutionary ideals, and practically defined a series of wars and an epoch. It took a coalition of European powers to defeat him (contrary to what Anglo historians like to posh about).

Though his expedition to Saint Dominique (Haiti) and his failure in Egypt/Syria is surprisingly overlooked in modern depictions.
