Postmodernism represents the assimilation of leftist critique by capitalism. It was pretty much 1968-generation giving up. Under modernism, marxism was much more dominant as a theoretical framework. Because in the 60s students would throw rocks throw the windows of right wing professors, protest to try to force them to resign, etc. Academia got taken over by left wing radicals by force, and the right wingers were too paralyzed by being called " fascists" and having to meekly defend themselves to actually do anything about it.

Isaac Newton was a religious nut who believed in alchemy. Arthur Conan Doyle was had an M.D. and spent twenty years writing Sherlock Holmes stories, only to spend the next twenty years looking for fairies and ghosts.

The point being that the ability to understand sophisticated mathematics doesn't say anything about your ability to put your personal prejudices aside. Intelligence isn't a uniform thing - most people can be pretty selective about how they apply their intelligence in areas affecting their personal beliefs.

No one's wondering, and the term 'conspiracy' implies that it's a secret. As >>2078253 said, the purge of right-wing intellectuals from American universities began back in the 60s and has always been quite open.

Its only an issue when someone with a specialisation in say quantum field theory decides to pontificate on politics or another subject they're joe average on. There's also far fewer right wing intelligentsia because if you want the money you go into industry, academia is not as high paying.
