Why were wars so much shorter in the Napoleonic era compared to other wars prior and after?
Because Napoleon raped their ass

But he lost.

Because the way Napoleon fought, he just went for fatal blow every time, not only tactically but also strategically.
Due to the nature of the mobilization, planning, and supply efforts, mixed with Napoleon moving so damn fast.
Planning a war took months or more because you had to tell all the people in the cities and towns where to go and find them supplies and get them to the right spot all on paper and all the information delivered by horse.
Napoleon was great partially because he could remember all the details of these plans, like how many of x supply was where and where it needed to go. Thus he was able to make his plans very very fast.
Archduke Charles however took much much longer and his plans were very rigid.
Clauswitz says that each plan needs to have 'friction' or room to change when the things don't go according to plan.
So the coalition planned this whole deal for 1805 where they would attack France on three fronts and it was great but Napoleon heard about it and surrounded the Austrian Army at Ulm and suddenly half of Austrias army had surrendered.
Then he killed half of the other half at Austerlitz and soldiers ran the fuck away from there. All the plans and organization were useless because any plans from the Austrian war council couldn't reach the soldiers because they didn't know where the soldiers were.
It would take months to reorganize and go again, and this case 2 years for Archduke Charles to rebuild.
This combined with the fact the Napoleon was a cynical peace maker but also naive in a way.
He really wanted peace and gave his enemies the benefit of the doubt when he should have fucked them harder. They were all treacherous to him after he showed them mercy.

So in short armies were big and massed artillery meant more casualties to replace.
Big armies took more planning and planning takes time. That means if you lost a lot of dudes and you wern't a genius you had to stop.

Fucking this
Dude conquered Vienna three times yet he never deposed their emperor or anything
Everytime they betrayed him and attacked again, and every time he beat them and let them get away with it lightly
Coalition states pn the other hands were far from as forgiving
As soon as they finally defeated France, they removed Napoleon (the Prussians even wanted to kill him)
Because napoleon just stacked all his troops together and after 3 battles everybody was at 3k manpower

More or less this
