Does this book meet the 25 year rule?

well, you know something is up when China is building entire cities from scratch and this is considered "fake growth" while developed western democracies sell insurance, debt, and stock options to each other and this is considered "real growth"

Now, this book was written before Trump, but sometimes I really do wonder if the entire world is basically just resigning itself to ever more unstable and intense forms of capitalist alchemy that China isn't in the end going to come out on top just by reeling it in.

Don't get wrong. Singapore is the answer, and the best look for a culture/civilization anywhere in the world. China's got insane problems of its own. But I do love their philosophy and I honestly don't know what the fuck to think about the West.

China is rising with the tide like many other countries, they won't be overwhelmingly dominant like the US was in the 20th century.

I liked all the Redwall books when I read them as a kid but with the benefit of hindsight Redwall was better as a self-contained story

Just that it's not only the ultimate rags-to-riches success story of the 20C, it also got there by having one stern Confucian patriarch at the helm steering it through the rough waters between capitalism and communism. Now it's the coolest place on Earth to be.

What I like about Singapore is that it combines theory and praxis. People seem to be pretty happy there. To me it looks like a fairly workable model for a bootstrapped civilization.

I take as dim a view of social justice as I do of the capacity of megawealth to provide all answers. What I think people want is a fluorishing society, but this depends also I think on a certain understanding of the greater good. It doesn't require socialism, but LKY also didn't need to read Atlas Shrugged to make it happen. I find that interesting.

It also may not have anything to do with Confucianism. In this case, to some degree, it did. Although I think like any serious thinker there needs to be room for flex at the top so people can make decisions accordingly.
