Kurzesagt made an interesting /his/ related video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czgOWmtGVGs
Do you agree or disagree?
>>
Christfags would be triggered because it is hard to remember year of Jesus birth if it isn't 0 BC, for sure.
>>
>>2055773
LOL ye man haha
>>
>>2055756
Yes also why the fuck is

2100 called the 22nd century if its not 2200?
>>
>>2055824
because we didn't have programmers long ago to tell us to start from zeroth instead of first
>>
>>2055756
So the point of changing the calendar is that dumbasses could comprehend that world history didn't start 2016 years ago?
>>
>>2055756
In this video, there's a shit ton of historical inaccuracy, at least in it's graphical presentation. Apparently, the roman empire existed before Julius Caesar. Early Cuneiform wasn't a collection of reed strokes, but instead more pictographic. It's more semantics, but you could debate on his definition of "modern" human as well, the only remaining subspecies evolved around 50,000 years ago, not 200,000.
>>
>>2055824
Because the first century was the years zero through ninety-nine.
>>
>dude 10000 years before jebus' birth lmao

10000 years I'm fine with but still basing it on that jew on a stick is dumb
>>
>>2055889
The B.C A.D scale is very confusing since 6000 B.C is actually 8000 years ago.
>>
>>2055983
maybe if youre braindead
if people can't figure out how a fucking calendar works then they probably shouldnt be trusted with reproduction either
>>
Why don't triggered atheists just adopt the French Revolutionary calendar en masse?
>>
>>2055756
Why tho? Is it really so hard for some people to work with BC (negative numbers)?
>>
>>2056064
The same reason why science use absolute zero of temperature. That is just more natural than the bullshit arbitrary points.
>>
>>2056067
>its just more scientific

Oh piss off, you didn't care who the first temple builders were and I can bet you still dont give a rats ass, all backers of this new calendar care about is removing Christianity from society since people didnt flock to atheism like fedoras expected.

Why should I care? This is also the bullshit arbitrary point. Zero point should be the creation of the world of big bang if you doesn't believe in such.
>>
Any time you try to put a definitive year zero on anything, some new discovery is going to shift the event you thought you were dating around anyway. If a new calendar comes around when we make first contact or something, that would be one thing, but otherwise it seems like a pointless thing to worry about. A more globalized calendar will probably emerge out of economic necessity anyway.
>>
>>2056150
This has nothing to do with Christianity you asshead, it has to do with making the calendar more logically correct.
>>2056180
lol that webm is christianity summed up
>>
>>2055773
>>2055941
There is no year zero in the current calendar. The year before 1 was -1.
>>
>>2055756
did that video say that sumerian and egyptian civilization started at more or less the same time?

i thought sumerians were the first by a huge margin
>>
>>2056180
the perpetrators were muslim actually
just goes to show
>>
Disagree. Starting at the height of the Roman/Han Empire is ideal.
>>
I can see a number of flaws with this calendar method with the most glaring being its built upon the assumption we won't ever find earlier ruins. Its the classic problem of anthropological generalizations and taking the coincidence of the thousand year is just profoundly lazy if its trying to supersede what we've come to use for convenience.

>Muh multiculturalism

Its if anything based centred upon Turkey rather than 'global cultures' and makes a subjective leap on the stone pillars as being anything significant compared to other things we find. For a culturally neutral starting point you would need to search for objective fact such as natural phenomena much as we do with modern timekeeping.

Perhaps I'm being an assburger though. Of course for general human year keeping you would look for an event which signifies something to use culturally such as the birth of our lord and saviour.

>>2055756
retarded. Why would you want to put 0 somewhere in the exponential tail of a curve if you can put it at some point where exponential growth became significant? You want normalization, like exp(0) = 1.
>>
>>2056067
>That is just more natural than the bullshit arbitrary points.

This is fucking human history moron. Unless you want your calender's calibrated to the Big Bang every point is going to be fucking arbitrary.
>>
>>2055756
that way of reckoning certainly doesn't include all cultures as the video claims, in fact it uses a concept of "progress" that excludes many of them.

what about nomadic cultures? They never built cities and in fact they "regressed" by these standard taking only the domestication of animals from settled agricultural life and leaving all else behind.

what about hunter-gatherer societies that still exist today? they are literally being shown as the symbol for backwardness and as the starting point of "progress" in that video. they are not only not included they are actively being denigrated here.
