He really just got credit for doing nothing at all. England was in no mood for another uprising and really just decided to abandon India outright after WW2. Hes being used figurehead for Indians used to unite a historically very diverse country.

Just no.Giving India up just like this would have meant it could fall in the hands of the Soviets. I mean fuck seriously read a book. Roosevelt pretty much forced them to give up their colonies DURING WW2. It was never about abandoning any of the colonies but about transitioning them into (neo-colonial) states and keeping them communist free.

I believe he was a little too lenient towards Muslims, but ultimately if he had been listened to, India would be a better place. If Hindus could treat Muslims as an aspect of Smriti, they would have gotten along, and Islam would have become so Indian, that there would be no problems, and best of all, no Pakistan. Unfortunately, Ghandi could not control many of the Muslims, and thus, couldn't control the Hindus either.

His economic theories were too utopian though.
