I don't hate him. I think his history series accomplishes its own goals, gives teens and young adults a good overview of historical topics, and provides avenues for further investigation. I was in college when the first series was running, and it was honestly the catalyst for me to commit to a Middle Eastern History degree. There were a lot of points he brought up regarding the early Islamic empires that I hadn't thought of before and wanted to learn more, so I took a few classes and ended up with a degree in it.

Yeah, he's got a pretty strong liberal bias, but that's a known quantity. Importantly, he has the courtesy to acknowledge counter-arguments and where his own theories might be lacking. That's part of the reason I was so pissed with the Human Geography series, because it came right out of the gate making wild accusations and not really recognizing alternate viewpoints.
