I don't know if Churchland will go down in history as one of the "greats", but she and her husbands are basically the founders of "neurophilosophy", an attempt to answer philosophical questions using neuroscience.

Quine is one of the key figures in the analytic movement. He believes that "abstract objects" really exist, and was the first to question the analytic/synthetic distinction.

Husserl is a phenomenologist, pure Continental (not my usual style), but I love his exposition of suspending belief in the external world as a form of phenomenological self-reflection.

Will do, thanks to bringing them to my attention.

It seems there are still many philosophers hidden from me.

I do actively seek out for more philosophers but I usually end up with the more public and popular ones. The few obscure ones I found where Peter Godfrey-Smith who deals with evolutionary biology and Elijah Millgram who deals with philosophy and psychology.

I suppose my fallacy might also be in looking for books instead of papers.

At bottom philosophy should be about exploring what you are interested in. The history of thought is a deep dark tunnel and there's no way to shine light on it all in a single lifetime.

I also prefer books, but in my experience papers are important for understanding the books, as commentary or supplement. The real meat of thought is in the books, but the veggies are in the papers. Another great resource if you haven't already been using it is the Stanford Encyclopedia: https://plato.stanford.edu/
