I really cannot fathom why two mass murderers, that abused human rights and stole from the people of Cuba are treated with kid gloves by "men" like Trudeau

Chez and Castro both basically attempted to act for the good of the people, Chez especially, kantian ethics often triumph in matters of public opinion unless the failure to achieve the desird goal is large, as such Chez and Castro are considered at least neutral, and stuff like the Bay of pigs invasion and the embargo didn't really help drive down public opinion, in effect through the amount of sanctions and generally shitty behaviour of the US towards Cuba justifies to move away from american style systems of governance in Cuba to some people.
>>
>>2019885
Che and Castro were white tho
>>
>>2019888
Well it had potential, then Castro severed Cuba off from the western world, became a soviet puppet and generally stagnated the country while removing human rights. Batista was shit but Castro was a new level

Forced abortions
No freedom of religion
No freedom of sexuality
Stole all businesss and farms from the people and made them government property
Sent criminals en mass to Florida
Shit health care, shit schools, shit infrastructure
>>
>>2019871
>People just want a romantic story of a revolution for the people
this 100% basically

most people think like a child. for them Fidel was an ebin freedom fighter who was a Good Guy.
>>
>>2019885
Che was pretty much the commie version of ISIS
the guy wanted to ban "Imperialist Music" for fucks sake

In the end, is making shitty American pop music illegal a bad thing really?
>>
>>2019908
>No freedom of sexuality
Fidel claimed that he doesn't hold any prejudices against gay people personally, and that sexual opression after the Revolution springed from older mindsets of the military. I'm don't know whether I believe him tho.

>Stole all businesses and farms from the people and made them government property
Well, yeah, that's what happens when you quit capitalism. Private property is a deeply engrained spook, not a human right. (Not saying that I don't enjoy private property myself, just saying it's not a universal given)

>Sent criminals en masse to Florida
So he fucked Cuba by kicking shit people out of Cuba? Huh.

>Shit health care, shit schools
Nope.

I'll give you the rest, but that only makes him about par for the course as far as Latin American regimes go, and at least he had guts, dignity, and good banter. The rest of the continent is full of spineless shills.

>>2019921
>The US wouldn't have ruined Cuba if Castro would've just played along and rolled over
This is not how ethics work.
Cuba would be just as poor if he hadn't taken a stand, just in a fashionable, neo-liberal, slavist state way. Like the rest of the third world.

There have been reports about the state of the average hospital in Cuba. Filthy floors, crumbling walls and lack of running water and toiletry systems. While their health care system is great the actual health care is trash.,
There is no evidence to suggest that Cuba schools are good. Once again they have a great system for schooling but the schools are left in the dark.

They do give an impression that they have great medical schools because of how man expats are doctors. The kicker is that Cuba itself has a medical personal shortage. The government sends all their experts out of state to work on programs in other countries. The doctors are actually employed by Cuba and are paid by Cuba, receiving a very minor amount after the foreign government or institution pays for the lease on the doctor

Well that about the criminals it was just a statement against his morality
>>
>>2019826
They resisted imperialism and colonialism. Say what you want about their personal lives but they really did a lot for Africa. There's a reason why Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro were friends. There's a reason why many heads of state within Africa mourned the death of Fidel Castro.

No matter how much neocons and neoliberals try to piss on their images, they can't hide the fact that they stood up to the United States of America.

>>2019908
>No freedom of religion
He let the Pope come and entertain the Catholics, no? He just didn't run Cuba in a manner that evangelical Americans like.

>No freedom of sexuality
>Same sex sex has been legal since 1979, homosexual soldiering legal since 1993
Pick one

>Nationalization of businesses
Well, that's kind of how a communist revolution works, numbnuts.

>Deported criminals to Florida
Wait a moment, is that not what Doanld Tramp wants to do to criminal immigrants? Deport them? Golly, that really changes the perspective.

>Shit healthcare
No
>Shit schools
No

>Shit infrastructure
I'll give you that one

Good PR. It's hard to fight the admiration for monsters with good press. It's like a really strong addiction. It's not like the liberation of Cuba would reveal any spectacular findings. Their crimes is pretty well recorded. As for the admiration from celebrities and politicians it's a mix of ignorance and maybe some degree of legitimate evil. They would absolutely like Hitler and Bin Laden too but they were successfully demonized.

Not in terms of quality of life, average income, healthcare, education, or life expectancy.

Batista's Cuba was probably more socially libertarian but still a repressive dictatorship in which dissenters were regularly arrested and shot.

Batista, in seven years, killed half as many people as Castro did in the entirety of his rule after the revolution.

>>

Oh, I know the infrastructure is trash, that's why I excluded it from my post. The advancements in medicine and schooling have been great whatever way you want to put it, tho; shit was truly dire under Batista.

And y'know, you say the healthcare is bad, but I don't buy it. If it was bad people would die, and as it stands they have a better life expectancy than any other country in the continent.

Okay, let's talk about facts.

Castro persecuted gay people, persecuted dissident artists, banned non-state media and instituted a state-run council to control any artistic expression.

Castro also seized all commercial property, from the largest landowners down to the village shopkeeper, and ended up driving anyone with education or money out of the country, which needless to say caused huge economic problems. He used slave labour, forcibly conscripting "idle" men aged 15-26 into work battalions. His 'Cuban socialist paradise' was basically a sham, one giant Potemkin village, propped up by the Soviet Union for propaganda purposes.

When the USSR fell apart in the early 90s it caused the wholesale collapse of Cuba's economy, and it turned out that even after thirty years in power to organise Cuba's economy on ideal socialist principals, Castro still couldn't provide for his people. His economic policies led only to rampant poverty and malnutrition, and forced many Cuban women to turn to prostitution.

Castro executed hundreds of innocent people during the revolution, and while he was in power imprisoned any critics or protesters.

He was also a warmonger sending arms, money, and the Cuban troops all over the world trying to overthrow governments (which was particularly hypocritical given his opinions on the CIA). He was also a racist, in that he supported the aggressive fascist junta in Argentina during the Falklands conflict - when by all logic they should be his mortal enemy - simply because they were fellow Latinos.

Oh, and he almost caused an apocalypse. While Kruschchev and Kennedy were desperately trying to find a way out of the Cuban Missile crisis, Castro was pushing Kruschchev to nuke the US.

But free healthcare, right?

Praising Castro for introducing free education and healthcare is like praising Hitler for introducing fairer working hours and paid vacations for German workers. It's factually true, but with some rather important omissions.

cuba is, for latin/south america, pretty tollorent of the lgbt community, and while not perfect its made major strides since the 60s and 70s

homosexuality is even normalized in cuban sex ed and has been sice the 80s(someting the US cant even claim)

also cuban health care includes free transgender health care

castro also publicly apologized for mistreatment of gays and took personal blame for it

its absurd to criticize cuba for hmophobia when it was in many aspects better than its neighbors and by other aspects no worse than the rest of the world was in the 60s-80's
>>

They aren't. I've literally never heard anyone praise Castro in my whole life, and same for Che. Maybe a few college kids still have Che posters, but I feel like that's more of a meme at this point than a reality.
>>
>>2019826
As for outside the US, well, communist Cuba helped a lot of little countries with money and wars. And also probably inspired a lot of people, simply because of this: when you're in some resistance movement fighting against a real butcher-tier dictator in the jungle, the crimes of Castro/Guevera are, relatively speaking, minor.
>>
Because they killed the propertied classes and gave their shit to people who had nothing.
>>
>>2023476
>propertied classes
this is the problem with communists: they always need to divide people into classes. And then they're forced to pretend to themselves that some guy who owns the general store in some rural village deserved to have his store taken and his family shot because he was a member of the oppressive elite.

Castro took everything away from everyone, and kept it all for himself and his cronies. Do you honestly think that the government and the bureaucrats didn't live a hell of a lot better than the common worker?
