Please, it would take a literal apocalyptic scenario and breakdown of all forms of mass communication to break up the U.S. Other countries laugh at us when we claim our regions are "so different, honest!" Not to mention the fact that the nations infrastructure is so intertwined no one could run their own friggin power grid cause most of it's between half the other states. And lest we forget how all the states that actually say stuff about breaking off (conservative ones) are sans Texas all completely dependent upon federal funds to even function. Finally, who gets the nukes? surely no ones going to let all these now penniless, starving, and desperate plain states keep this nuke silos? They'd get reconquered by large population areas in a heartbeat out of sheer terror at having a nuclear armed nothing to lose state on their borders.
