What is the best way to learn?

Different for everybody. I prefer reading and discussing the content with people I'm close to for maximum effect.
we simply just don't know. pretty telling.

Is there any proof that the visual/audio/kinesthetic learner thing is BS?

I feel like the lecture part is at least true. It seems when people are in a lecture scenario they go completely internal and they lose their stake in the process. For example, they can fail to retain the content and blame the instructor. Any other perspectives on lecture?

Lecturing worked for centuries, if not millennia. There is no reason why it 'suddenly' doesn't work.
Maybe one reason: kids these days cannot concentrate for one than one minute.

This.
I can't concentrate for shit. Lectures are a waste of time for me.
I have to learn things in snappy 10 minute intervals interspersed with breaks and distractions.
Seriously. It's a sad state of affairs.
Revising what you have learned periodically to reinforce long term memory.
Each time you revise you increase the amount of time before you next need to revise.
Generally after lessons move on to something else I study what I have just learned for an hour every day until I know what I am doing. I then condense it into "study packets" that take 20 to 30 minutes to get through, look at my calendar and decide how often I will revisit it. Usually 2 or 3 times a week for 2 weeks or so, then once a week for a month, then once every month until exams approach.
Doesn't have to be a strict system, I might study something for longer if I am doing badly or move it to another day, I mainly do it to make sure I don't neglect anything.
