Are great men a product of the society they live in.

Is this the reason there aren't any to find or rise in democracies?
>>
I'm pretty sure democracies have produced a large number of great men.

>Is this the reason there aren't any to find or rise in democracies?

Who the fuck do you think Trump is? He is single handily destroying modern PC culture and will bring back the American dream. He did this, of off the back of his own vision and was able to mobilise a populace no one thought possible.

t. Not Americunt.
>>
>>2001279
Compare that to the scale of what Alexander achieved and they look puny in comparisson
>>
>>2001289
Democracies have had more soldiers than alexander had civilians.
>>
>>2001300
But how many are still remembered?
>>
>>2001289

Robert Clive says 'hi'.
>>
>>2001289
I'm pretty sure Washington, Abe, and Roosevelt each accomplished more than Alexander did.

>Are great men a product of the society they live in
Absolutely. Golden ages make great men, not the contrary.

>Is this the reason there aren't any to find or rise in democracies?
No, there are democracies spawned by golden ages like the founding fathers' america and renaissance florence and then there's modern democracy that's just there because it was put there

Only really influenced America.

Alexander the Great's influence reaches across the globe even today

Yes. But not in the way you think.

>Only really influenced America.
>Alexander the Great's influence reaches across the globe even today

Depending on how you view the term influence either of these can be true, but the perspective makes one exclusive from the other. If Alexander's life had global influence through the aftermath of his death, then any given president of America would also come to have global influence having influenced a global power.
>>
>>2001395
I mean, when has a US president done something so significant, that they gained a word to decribe them. Washington the Great, Lincoln the JUST, Teddy the FIghter, etc?
>>
>>2001276
Well, look at LOGH. The Empire is filled with hyper-competent generals and at constant threat of civil war because any of those guys getting a little ambitious, like Reuenthal, could put everything at risk. Meanwhile Yang is literally the only FPA officer that could match Reinhard or any of his top commanders, and everyone else is afraid when he isn't there.
>>
>>2001405
You might as well be asking why there are no presidents named Agamemnon.
>>
>>2001417
Not as true as you might think. The Alliance had plenty of talented commanders, but they weren't given positions of power. Even in the Empire, a lot of the people that would eventually prove to be so good that they could conquer the galaxy alongside Reinhard were only ever given the chance because he recognized and rewarded their talent as early as becoming a fleet admiral.

The Alliance never really gave Yang the same level of freedom, and even deliberately hampered his ability to accrue talent in his forces because they feared he'd turn around and conquer them. Meanwhile everyone of lesser but recognizable talent were kept at low ranks because that talent made them less likely to be ass kissers.

Reinhard says as much himself after conquering the Alliance; it was filled with people that, had they been promoted to the right level of power, would never have let him conquer them.
>>
>>2001319
How many non combatants are remembered from alexanders time? Roughly around 0.0000000000007% as ww2 civilians.
>>
>>2001368
Alexander hasnt affected the world a fraction as much as roosevelt

Also
>great man theory
Plz go
>>
>>2001437
>"talent" makes people non ass kissers
Well spooked.

Hows your 18th rebellion going, imperial scum? Taxation without representation is one hell of a drug.

Nice memes. Good conversation.

Hey there is nothing wrong with great men history. I do believe that should never be the only purpose however.

It's more that modern democracies are well aware of the dangers that great, ambitious men pose and thus have several failsafes to make sure that men don't become that great any more, having power distributed among several not-so-great men.
>>
>>2001417
>>2001437
desu Yang made wayyyyy better use of his members than Reinhard. Also Julian's legacy isn't over

Also daily reminder the Empire is almost double the Alliance, of course they would have a higher talent pool
>>
>>2001740
Roosevelt helped the creation of UNO
Alexander's empire was shattered the very moment he died

>>2001284
One week after Trump got elected he went back on nearly everything he promised. Don't fall for the electoral hype : a president must be judged only by what he actually accomplishes
