My point is they're both retarded. Even if you think they sound good on paper neither are suitable for the real world.

If you don't have enough of a social safety net, you're going to fall behind other countries that do and your people will be less productive, and you'll actually lose wealth.

If you have too much of a safety net, you're going to be wasting money on inefficient programs and bureaucracy.

Both positions are extreme and the boring reality is that dull, ordinary centrism works the best. It's not perfect but it works.
