The basic idea is that social changes always accomodate economical possibilities, which, in turn are defined by technological advancement. Post-industrial Western society moved into a state where 99% of jobs could be done by females just as much and well as by males, so emancipation came around - because it was now economically plausible for everyone. Women thus became independent - sexual conservatism meant only that women weren't allowed to fuck what they wanted. Additionally, our economy is now based on innovation and mental performance, to which freedom of the mind is benefical. Coupled with the advancement of information technology in the personal sphere, sexual liberation was pretty much a given.

Low birthrates are a temporary setback only. They are the result of the shock of 'we free now' on the part of women and of the fact that employment and education systems, partially on purpose, have not yet fully adapted to emancipated women and newer family models. Sexual liberalism and healthy, fertile family life as the general state for 30+ people will peacefully coexist within 10-20 years.
