See, the original justification of anti-semitism is the death of Jesus Christ. If you’re familiar with the story of the “Passion of the Christ” aka Easter Sunday, there is the common element of “a Jewish mob practically rioting to have Jesus executed”.

This is 2000-year-old propaganda from the Roman Empire.

In reality if the Jewish people in Roman-occupied Judea wanted Jesus dead they’d just stone him to death for heresy. Crucifixion, on the other hand, is a Roman execution. All signs point to the Empire executing him for inciting rebellion and then shifting the blame once the idea became embarrassing.

This is where we get to the basis of why anti-semitism exists. In around 66 AD, Judea rose up against the Romans, but the revolt was put down and the Jewish people exiled thus beginning the long diaspora.

What started as a practical matter of social policing became an ideological matter once the Christian religion was adopted and adapted by the Empire.

Historically, Christians were banned from practicing "usury" which was usually defined as producing any interest-bearing loan. Of course this ban did not apply to the Jews who often made a living off money lending in addition to their merchant ventures.

For any economic growth to occur there must be a system of finance to fund growth. Since the role of finance often fell to the Jews, they issued loans under the protection of the kings. Unfortunately, the seeking of quick and easy wealth meant that when the lender came to collect, the borrower was left penniless after failing to recoup his loan. Who easier to blame than the monolithic, Christ-killing group that "took" his money?

It's no different than the people who defaulted on their loans in 2008. They failed to understand basic finance and took the money.
