not an empire in the traditional sense, but people from the entire western world depend on american defense, american politics, american aid, watch american entertainment, go to american schools, list to american artists, have their currency evaluated in american currency, learn english, etc.

we've had a cultural, economic and defense stranglehold on the entire western hemisphere for 70 years now.

i saw a study on global presence indices, the US had one that was ~1000. China was in second at ~400. That's absurd.
