The north is, or was, protestant. The Europeans maintained their ethnic purity and built great success

It's own holy book gets pretty close with everyone hailing from the same two humans, at least compared to the pre-Catholic Pagan faiths. It is in the very least a stepping stone.

Protestants were mainly upset because they viewed the Church wasn't taking the religion seriously enough. Every time some sect breaks off from another in Christianity its usually to practice an even stricter and more fundamentalist version of the faith (basically the same as Islam, and when the mainstream sects are already super fundamentalist and strict that's why you get ISIS and Al-Qaeda instead of Puritans and Amish).

Scripture alone I have the most difficulty speaking with any eloquence on apart from the general point that it's what is necessary to start your journey. And the believe that it's inspired nature means it's the only physical thing we have that we can rely on being inerrant. Although that does not of course mean that our own interpretation of it is!
