>Finally, after many years of subservience, I have secured myself a piece of territory for me and my fellow haplotype-sharing subjects. Even though this feat was only possible after my superior subjugators weakened, I consider my achievement a superhuman feat. I am a god.
> I will finally world relevance by exactly copying my erstwhile Chinese rulers and conquering and slaying the shit out of the south.

All jokes aside, no it wasnt genocide. The Viets werent going racial cleansing mode on the Southern tribes and the Cham.
You can still see the ethnic differences of the Vietnamese today, with Northerners looking quite like Han Chinese while the South has more Austronesian features like Malays/Filipinos and whatnot.
Though the Vietnamese Dynasties have distributed their subjects far and wide anyway so there's no concentration of Ethnic differences save for aboriginal subjects.
