Very small-scale communes like the East Wind Community are the only functional examples of what I would describe as "real" socialist/communist/and shit like that societies. Most of them are basically work camps where you are given food/shelter/water/etc... and a small allowance in exchange for working whatever jobs there are to do in the community and all decisions are democratic.

Orthodox Marxism's Communism is thought of as being, characterised by the proletarian revolution, which leads to the dictatorship of the proletariat, which leads to communism, which is itself characterised as being a utopian, classless, stateless society.

This is why neo-Marxism exists, as non-Bolshevik Marxists were disgusted as the Bolshevik model of Communism (which they considered "not_real_communism.png").

Real Communism to Orthodox Marxists is the aforementioned, real Communism to Bolsheviks is Marxist-Leninism/Stalinism, real Communism to neo-Marxists is a meme.

There doesn't need to be an allowance, it is not integral to the functioning of the communities, it just helps to have an allowance when you are surrounded by a rabidly capitalistic society on all sides that gives you nothing unless you pay for it. You could easily go to East Winds and deny an allowance, you'd only be preventing yourself from having some pocket change if you ever wanted to leave, as everything on the community is already shared - the allowance is only for spending on the outside world if you wanted to leave for a while, it serves no real purpose within the community itself.

We all know theyll vote for more money and then it wont be able to compete and it will die. Happens with every one of them that starts. Thats why communism and socialism is only possible in an industrialized country that is self sufficient and even then its worse then capitalism because it wont advance as fast. Only way to win is to not compete with capitalism.
