I know this almost definitely bait, but "corn" just means any kind of grain. Maize was called "Indian corn" by early European settlers of the Americas, which gradually just got shortened to "corn" in popular usage.

Here in Bongland "corn" still means any kind of grain crop. Maize is called sweetcorn or maize.
