Justified?
>>
Anyone who bitches about Hiroshima and Nagasaki but not strategic bombing in general is an idiot.
>>
They're Justified, and they're Ancient,
And they drive an ice cream van.
(just roll it from the top)
They're Justified and they're Ancient,
With still no master plan.

You can invent a justification for anything. That doesn't mean it will ever be right.
>>
They dropped pamphlets gaijin
>>
>>1961074
Not so much actually.

Before Hiroshima, none of the pamphlets said anything specific enough to suggest anything but more conventional bombing. After Hiroshima, they printed up several million pamphlets explaining more nukes were coming, but they didn't actually get dropped until after Nagasaki was leveled.
>>
>>1961053
no.

not in my personal opinion
>>
>>1961053
the message it sent destroyed the japanese high-command mentality that if they toughed it out, the americans would lose too many men to justify continuing the war.

The advent of the atomic bomb meant that it only took a single bomber to go through the line and a whole city center would be gone. It wouldn't be like a long strategic bombing campaign where many planes would have to be sacrificed, and with the atom bomb the japanese people couldn't get to any sort of shelter due to the unpredictability of the strike and the strength of the explosion.

Sick bantz.
>>
>>1961053
Nope but neither was America's deceleration of war on Japan.

(Inb4 muh Pearl Harbor. Had America not slapped sanctions on Japan the two nations could have ruled the world as friends)
>>
>>1961732
talk to anyone who lived in the co-prosperity sphere and tell me thats the kind of world you want to live in.
>>
>>1961699
well not so much continuing the war but that conditional surrender would be an option
>>
>>1961732
>could have ruled the world as friends

You are hilarious
>>
>>1961757
one of the purposes behind a fast unconditional surrender to the US was to prevent a partion of japan by invading soviet forces.
>>
We have records of telegrams of Japan trying to make peace prior to the atom bombs, but they didnt want to surrender unconditionally
>>
>>1961053
Consider that America purposefully picked cities that were relatively undamaged so that they could gauge the damage of the bombs, instead of targeting strategically important cities.

Justification is a spook by the way.
>>
>>1961772
they were garbage terms, of course we denied them.
>>
>>1961053
No but worse things have happened, like the Tokyo fire bombing or the Holocaust, or Japan in China
>>
>>1961776
Um.....got a source for that? yyyeah...
>>
>>1961753
People in Taiwan liked it
>>
>>1961053
Yes, it was the lesser of two evils. The other option was a full-scale invasion of Japan, which would have fucking decimated the Japanese people and our armed forces. They made so many purple hearts in anticipation of the casualties that we're still going through the stockpile today. The atom bombs essentially sacrificed two cities for the sake of an entire nation.
>>
Sometimes if you want to end a cancer you just have to cut that shit out, and Japan's "muh honorabre samurai" culture was truly cancerous.

yeah lets forget about the punitive killings of taiwanese natives during the annexation, they aren't real people /s

It still is, but I'll take weeaboo role play shit over actually leading a bloody and horrific trail of genocide and pillage through a once proud nation any day

Here's your source, friend. Note that one of their requirements is that the city has to be mostly untouched before being hit by the nuke, which ruled out more strategical targets.
>>
>>1961890
>Japan's "muh honorabre samurai" culture was truly cancerous.
Japan got rid of anything resembling samurai and their culture long before WW2.
>>
>>1961947
he is referring to bushido-esque honor which was going under a mini-renaissance during the war period.

>Justified to Punish the Japanese
No, but you also have to consider how little they actually knew about radiation
>Justified to demonstrate that the US is willing and ready to use Nuclear weapons when it suits them
I would argue yes. We could never know for sure but it possibly could have been the biggest reason why nuclear war never broke out between the USA and USSR. Having a real life example of the devastation caused by the most primitive of Nuclear bombs was effective in making people realize how dangerous the shit they had was. also it's worth noting that the death toll really wasn't that horrible and wasn't nearly as high as the fire bombing of Tokyo.
>>
>>1961053

Yes. More people would have died due to the war dragging on had this not been the case.
>>
>MUH PURL HARBER
US wanted a comfy satellite state and to show USSR its dick, there was no moral component to the bombings
>>
>>1962138
That had nothing to do with Samurai. That was just military discipline and belief in the Emperor's divinity. It wasn't bushido. Cultures don't boil down to so few simple concepts.
>>
>>1961893
actual taiwanese people deny this happen tho
>>
>>1962170
This. It was concepts taken from bushido that were convenient to the new bakufu and the emperor and then applied in all the schools of japan.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: no.
Longer answer: yes.
>>

>many planes would have to be sacrificed

Japans ability to wage an air war was completely done by the time of the atomic bombings. Why did you think that we issued daylight bombing raids with near impunity?
>>
Would Japan rather have gotten that Soviet dick?
>>
was the soviets stealing the atom bomb designs justified?
>>
The Bombs really had no affect on japan

America was already levelling cities with bombs, and Japan didn't surrender. Why would they care if another city got levelled but with a single bomb instead of multiple? Does it reall matter?

The Japanese didn't even have a meeting to discuss the nuclear bombs

America likes to pretend they dropped the two bombs and then japan surrender because of it, because they were scared of Americas might or some bullshit lol thats just straight propaganda

Japan surrender because of the soviets, the bombs were fairly irrelvant
>>
>>1961053
>Japan committed atrocities without bating an eyelid
>Americans were tired of war and didn't want to deal with suicidal zerg rushes
>Soviets wanted a piece of that if it didn't end quick enough
>They only realized how scary the nukes were in hindsight

why hasn't /his/ made a "reasons why we dropped the bomb" list like the "reasons why rome fell" one already?
>>
>>1961053
i would rather prefer to see my country nuked than being infested by communists for 50 years

The nuclear bomb target cities were put on a list of cities not to bomb during development, this included Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Kyoto and as a result, Kyoto retains a lot of WWII architecture as it was never bombed in any significant degree.
Funnily enough, a high ranking member of the US gov't actually had his honeymoon in Kyoto, and didn't want such a beautiful city to be destroyed, so he had it placed on the list of cities to be annihilated, hoping the war would end before Kyoto's number came up.
>>
>>1964954
>muh best nipponese army
>rekt by the soviets with contemptuous ease.
>>
>>1964992
If the japanese weren't afraid of the fact that America could destroy every major city in Japan in a few weeks, why would they be afraid of the Russian military killing their men?
>>
>>1963945
it stopped US and USSR from going at war with any countries except third world shitholes

so maybe
>>
They were the victors, therefore it was a noble and benevolent act. In fact, it was their duty.
