because it completely defeats the purpose of heaven and hell. and if heaven and hell are not a thing, why follow the rules?

Christianity seeks eternal life.

How does one this brutish and self serving claim the high moral ground?

> Why follow the rules?
Isn't being reincarnated as shit is harsh enough punishment already? Especially if you can even stuck in the shit loop for all eternity if somehow you will be evil even while being the literal shit?!

Sure, it's pretty bad, but christianity has it's own punishments which leaves no room for reincarnation.
It's like asking why apples don't taste like oranges.
It's just not how our system works , in regard to our scriptures. With us; you're born, you live your life and make your decisions, you die, you take a little dirt nap until the end of days, you're judged, you spend the rest of eternity in whatever afterlife has been assigned to you (which is determined by the choices you made in life, John Calvin go away).
Enlightenment isn't our ideal end, but salvation, living in communion with God and the saved. New heaven, on a new earth. A near perfect existence, as opposed to non-existence. Reincarnation wouldn't make sense for our faith, especially with the possibility of reincarnating as an animal.

It's just a matter of cultural influence, namely from the Greeks, Persians, etc. If Christianity was founded in Asia, it'd be an entirely different story.
Any other answer is just post hoc justification crafted from thousands of years of theology.

Its a different kind of religion, Christianity has a personal universe which cares for you etc (narcissism), the ascetic and eastern religions have an im-personal universe where the eternal cycle of rebirth is present.

Where do you think Jerusalem is?

Because reincarnation is neither very good nor very bad. It's a lukewarm kind of existence, one that can only occur in polytheism, in a state where no one God has the upper hand. In monotheism, with an all powerful god, the omnipotent being we call God will punish or reward, but he's not limited like humans, so he can reward far better and punish far better. Thus Hell is very bad and heaven very good. Even when polytheism has a number of afterlife they all seem to be doing more or less what people did in life
On a personal note, why would we as westerners want to embrace reincarnation, when the whole point of Buddhism is to escape the cycle of reincarnation?

Catholicism has a concept called perfect contrition - decision to correct solely due to love of God above wverything created.
