I don't get why people get so worked up over Tom Bombadil.
He's supposed to be just a personification of nature, you know, that thing Tolkien was obsessed with. Arguing over whether he is an Ainur or not is completely irrelevant to his place in the book.
I really wish people into fantasy weren't so hell bent on categorising things like a biologist and instead could see simple metaphors and themes when they are there.
