From what I can tell, the problem is with its lack of authenticity. Unless I'm reading blatantly wrong shit (lol wikipedia), it's just a meaningless ancient hat style used all around until Europeans thought it was the same thing as a Pileus and stuck all this shit about liberty and freedom to it.
