Polish here.
Nappy was definitely a hero. Initial Republic was cancer, and Nappy brought France to greatness they never had before.
Shame he lost, as the winners decided to remove everything created by him, including Polish state he formed.
The emperor shall rise again.
The Anglo fears the Napoleonic grenadier.
Before Napoleon took power, the country was still a wreck, the economy that bad touched the revolution off was still in shambles, the government was a revolving door of corruption. Once he came into the picture, that all stopped, he fixed France, while keeping and protecting the values of the republic, and hammered in the laws that still guide much of the civilized world to this day. Napoleon was not perfect, nobody is, but he was a great man that did much for his country and the world, and could gave done so much more.
Of course, I'm from Canada, so as with any Anglo country, I grew up believing Napoleon was a 19th century midget Hitler.
