What did Hitler think of Kaiser Wilhelm?
He probably secretly despised him for giving up in 1918.
Nazis didn't like monarchists, and monarchists didn't like Nazis. The distrust was mutual.

That's what I was thinking.
I figured Hitler was probably disgusted at the sight of him.

Kaiser Wilhelm did send Hitler a congratulations telegram after the battle of France.
But yeah, mutual disdain.
Why would a bohemian corporal mesh well with a high born aristocrat?
Kaiser Wilhelm sent a congratulatory letter to Hitler and asked if he could be Kaiser again when nazis won in German elections. It didn't happen because Hitler had to be on top.

Banter wars was the form of communication between Willy and Hitler.

He liked the Kaiser and they were influenced by the same thinkers like Chamberlain.
Before Nazi's came to power in 1933 Hitler wanted to Kaiser to take hindenberg's postion as head of state and allow himself to rule the country in a fashion similar to Mussolini had in Italy.
Not only would Hitler be able to imitate Mussolini but it would secure the monarchist vote in Germany.
Goerring and the Kaiser met but disagreed on the details of such an alliance. Willhelm wanted privelages for the other aristocratic families in Germany and Hitler never could agree.
Still when Hindenberg died after Nazis were in power the thought again was to put the Kaiser or more likely, his son who was a devout Nazi back on the throne as the head of state, even with diminished power.
Hitler gave the Kaiser a pension when he was in power.
The Kaiser's private comments about National Socialism leaked to Nazi leadership and severly hurt relations. The Kaiser agreed with them in principle but never read Mein Kampf and was unaware that 'socialism' in NSDAP wasn't Marxist socialism.
However, Hitler had a vision and need to be in power long enough to see it become a reality and he viewed the Kaiser as a threat to his power as he could be seen as another figurehead to rally behind.
The Kaiser approved of almost all of Hitler's policy except anti-Semitic ones.
During the invasion of Netherlands an honor guard was set up outside the Kaiser's home where he lived in exile. The Kaiser sent a letter to hitler after france congratulating him, but referred the troops as 'his' and asked hitler to restore the monarchy. At the same time the honor guard began to snap to attention when the Kaiser would appear outside.
Hitler was not pleased.
Really, better diplomacy and less pomp and he could have been a figure head like the British style monarchy. Especially his Nazi offspring.

Also in Mein Kampf Hitler calls him great in comparison to Kaiser Franz

Hardly an achievement.

Willy wasn't weak, rather, he was too strong. Bismarck KNEW Germany couldn't win a war on two fronts, that's why he arranged allainces like the league of three emperors, Willy vastly overestimated the ability of the German military.

I remember reading somewhere that the Kaiser once wrote to Hitler, congratulating him on his progress and requesting that he take steps to restore the monarchy. Then Hitler called him an idiot.

I think it had less to do with Hitler needing to be in charge and more to do with the fact that Wilhelm had gone into hiding for 15 years after leaving Germany in ruins and doing literally nothing to assist Hitler's party prior to it being elected.
