They didn't accomplish their objective
You could leave an attacker bloodied but if he still murders the person he's after, did you win?
tactically and strategically, yes
politically, no.
NVA could not gain territory while we were there and while we supplied the South.
The Viet Cong was smashed and no longer a fighting force after the Tet Offensive.
The problem was Watergate, Democrat butthurt, north and south not respecting the treaty of paris, and the mid term elections. Watergate and Nixon leaving office to escpace impeachment caused the Democrats to take congress in the midterm elections. Still sore about watergate and Nixon ending the war. They pulled all material support for the South Vietnam government. Meanwhile North and South were still fighting each other on a small scale. The South had not really bothered to build up independent infrastructure capable of sustaining self defense of the nation. So when american support vanished. The North took the initiative and quickly conquered the South.
the infamous photo of people getting on the rooftop helicopter in saigon. That was years after the war official ended.
Remember that the Lügenpresse depicted the Tet Offensive as some sort of horrible blow to US forces. Which helped tilt american sentiment to being against the war. When in truth the Tet Offensive was a huge blunder to the communist Vietnamese force, and a strategic victory for the USA.

What of their political objectives did America accomplish? None of them? Well, I guess they lost.
>>1941382
So do you think Nixon killed Kennedy?
Do you think Kennedy should have invaded Cuba?
>>1941453
desu, Russia building missile bases in Cuba is like having your neighbor buy a gun and overhear him saying if your kids cut across his lawn one more time hes going to blow their heads off.
>>1941453
LBJ and the CIA did it.
>>1941382
>strategically, yes
the strategic cannot be detached from the political
>>1941508
You can do whatever the fuck you want as long as you have enough brain power.
You obviously don't.
>>1941527
Not him, but that's not what strategy means.
Strategy is the art of taking your means and accomplishing your goals with them. You cannot say you "strategically" won if you didn't achieve your goal, and it's questionable whether you can do so if you do achieve your goal at high cost.

The US won the battles but lost the war.
