Have any U.S. presidental canidates evoked similar responses in regards to disagreement and controversy in the past, compared to Trump?

Who's come the closest?
>>
Bush v Gore, 2000
>>
>>1937655
This, desu
>>
>>1937654
Probably, but there was no internet to keep track of it all
>>
>>1937654
Adams v Jefferson
Kennedy v Nixon
Humphrey v Nixon

Those are all runners up. The REAL GOAT Presidential election was Lincoln v Douglas v Breckinridge. The election was so fucked up that half the country left and started a fucking war.

>>1937660
Bush Gore was very tame until the actual election.
>>
Obamas first election.
Bush vs Gore

Too young to remember any earlier. Rest were pretty tame since I first voted in 2000
>>
I heard someone on the news tonight compare him to Andrew Jackson.(populism)
>>
>>1937654
George Wallace. There were political ads just like the ones for Trump, saying he was too dangerous and unhinged. Clinton even made a new version of an old anti-Wallace ad (Confessions of a Former Republican) to use for Trump. The difference was that Wallace got absolutely BTFO and Trump actually won.
>>
wasn't Teddy Roosevelt very controversial at the time, with all his trust busting?
>>
>this thread

You niggas serious? States started leaving before the votes where even officially tallied.

If before Christmas, Hawaii decides to dip out, then maybe we can talk.
>>

fuck you i wanna see murica ruined
>>

>Bush Gore was very tame until the actual election.

This, just a couple of centrists with 90% similar platforms. (Of course, President Bush ended up very different from candidate Bush.)
>>
>>1937857
I hear a lot of comparisons with the nixon election but I think it's mainly because of the "I'm not a politician" thing ft the impending doom
>>
>>1937654
Digital media is making people react more strongly than they would otherwise. It's the emotional feedback bubble thing.
>>
>>1938104
you kinda missed the point. everything points to current years shenanigans as being just talk. As you say, if states start secedeing then it's cereal.

My vote is for Jefferson. He was the Anti-Christ who wiped his ass with the Constitution.
>>
>>1937937
>Wallace got absolutely BTFO

Wallace ran third party though. That he actually won states was an accomplishment.
>>
>>1938199
>President Bush ended up very different from candidate Bush
Not really. He ran on a neocon platform and played out a neocon presidency.
>>
>>1939216
>▶
He ran on a campaign of keeping us out of nation building projects.

That is hardly neoconservative, its closer to paleoconservatism
>>
>>1939249
>He ran on a campaign of keeping us out of nation building projects
Yet he promoted chickenhawking, which paleocons do not agree with. There's a pretty big distinction there.
>>
Goldwater in 1964. They actually made people believe he'd nuke the world. I've read up on Goldwater and he didn't seem the sort to recklessly utilize nuclear weapons in political discord. Even Nixon was more lunatic about waving the nuclear threat in regards to North Vietnam, but then he went and initiated SALT with Brezhnev.

This. Whereas 20 years ago, the american elections would deserve 2 or 3 quips over morning radio, coffee and newspapers, I had people today explaining they watched livestreams until 4am then woke at 7 to see the end results. Internet, social media and amero-japanese imageboards are a hell of a drug.

When George Bush Jr. ran, everybody was against him too.
When Reagan ran, everybody feared he would trigger WW3

And that's just recent history
>>
>>1937861
Both are populists, that's to be certain, although when it comes to their beliefs and policies themselves I don't know if the comparison applies.
>>
>>1939301
I think you're oversimplifying it.
>>
>>1939359
The 2016 election is extremely similar to the 1980 election.

>mfw some SJW tries to shoot him but fails and Trump beats the shit out of him with a cane
>mfw by merely being elected Trump has reignited the Trail of Tears
He truly is Andrew Jackson reincarnated
>>
>>1939690

No. He is not Andrew Jackson. He's not even from the same planet as Jackson, who actually did the bootstrap thing, rather than provide a transparently bogus simulation of the bootstrap thing.
>>
>>1937654
Lincoln. He wasn't even on the ballot in the South, and half the nation decided to leave before he was even inaugurated
>>
>>1937654

Obama in 2008 and 2012. I lived in NOVA in 2012, and I have about 50 postcards with Obama in that stereotypical communist get up on the front and starving white children on the back, talking abut how Obama will ship all the jobs overseas, make white people second class citizens and turn the country over to the Russians or the Chinese or the Kenyans. Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, all the birth certificate shit....every election is just like this one: it's do or die for the nation, my candidate will save the country from eternal ruin, and the candidate I don't support is hell bent on its destruction and the end of all good things in life.
>>
>>1938645
>He remains the last third-party candidate to receive pledged electoral college votes from any state.

nice
>>
>protests in 7 major cities not even 24 hours after the election has been called

guys...I don't think America is going to make it.

You don't meme a reality TV star into office while he loses the popular vote.
>>
>>1939869
You see, /pol/ is not quite sane, we are this universe version of the followers of chaos, if that is a good thing only time will tell
>>
>>1939848

Sad but true. I hate american elections, not because of the political figures, but because of the followers.

>Duh muh candidate is not a fascist/ socialist
>starts to stay fascist/ socialist shit

>Duh muh candidate isn't a sexist
>says sexist shit

>Muh candidate isn't racist towards X people
>proceeds to make racist comments towards X people
>>
>>1939869
The thing is those are liberals without guns.
>>
>>1939367
Jackson had years of experience from serving in both the army and as a judge and senator, and was a successful businessman owning hundreds of slaves and a huge plantation. While Jackson and Trump may seem similar at first glance, Jackson at had enough political experience behind him to know exactly what he wanted to do. Trump does not.
>>
>>1940416
The white ones yeah. But those aren't the ones I'd be worried about.

Don't even try comparing some silver spoon daddy's boy rich fuck to a respectable military man like Jackson, you fuck. The fact that anybody has the nerve to even think about that comparison sickens me.
>>
>>1939658
Sure, with increasing globalisation the american elections become the interest of the global community even more, but im talking about the personal involvement and personalisation of the american experience that is only possible because of the things i mentioned.
Reading our forums, some things read as if americans actually living there were debating, not slovenes living 10,000km away
>>
>>1940489
They've titerally been a meme since the 70's.
