>Brutus
was seduced by Roman ultra-conservatives who thought that the Roman model represented the best of all possible social arrangements (as evidenced by its unprecedented success on the world stage) and any attempt to change or alter this social order would be tantamount to heresy. So by removing the distorting agent (killing Caesar) life would go back to being flowers and sunshine for Romans faithful enough to adhere to natural law.
Of course "natural law" is bullshit so by removing Caesar without addressing the grievances which lead to his rise in the first place, all that Brutus and the conservatives did was create a massive power vacuum filled by someone far more ruthless and cunning than Julius, who lacked his predecessor's sense of clemency and had no qualms running down the conspirators and butchering them like dogs (even as the corrupt conservative-dominated Roman senate cleared them of any wrongdoings in Caesar's assassination).
>TL;DR Conservatives learn the hard way that nobody gives a shit about the persuasiveness of their opinions.
