Ayyyy was wondering where this thread was. Based Antoninus Pius

>Byzantine pretenders
The Byzantine Empire was the Roman Empire.
Besides he still has a long way to go at this rate.
Based
>gallic barbarian
>emperor
How did it come to this?
Wasn't he appointed by Hadrian to rule until Marcus Aurelius was old enough to take the throne?
Antoninus seems to have been successful in maintaining the status quo by doing as little as possible.
>>1927418
He was adopted by Hadrian as a place holder and basically told he would only be adopted if he would in turn adopt Marcus Aurelius and name him as his successor.
Everything worked out perfectly except for the fact that Pius wouldn't fucking die. Still his reign is undeniably the best time to be a Roman citizen.

Hadrian Antoninus and Marcus did just that, fuckers spent their entire careers maintaining the status quo while puting out fires all around them, Trajan surely was shdh in his grave
>>1927553
Trajan was half the reason for most of those fires to begin with.
His pulling of the legions of the west to fight in the east were the reason the tribes got uppity
Those same legions then brought back a fucking plague with them once they were eventually moved back west
Those legions had to be pulled back because Trajan was stretching the borders far beyond what was within Rome's abilities just because he wanted to keep playing Alexander.
While at the same time having to reconsolidate the powers of the Emperor because Trajan delegated it all so he could keep fighting rather than actually ruling
Fuck Trajan. He's such an overrated shit.

Why was Hadrian so intent on lil Marcus?
Did Hadrian diddle his young virgin boi pussy?
>>1927694
Possibly. It's not really clear.
He had Antoninus adopt both Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, both from close personal relations. Marcus Aurelius was the son of a close friend and Lucius Verus was his adopted grandson.
Some suggest it was actually Antoninus that favored Marcus more. Either way Marcus showed promise early and Hadrian didn't want complications after his death and even after Antoninus's death.
