UK and France were desperate to avoid another war, and the sentiment that Hitler's requests were somewhat legitimate was widespread.
After all, in that period, communism was seen as a far bigger threat by many. Though people like Churchill saw through Hitler's plans, many did not and many even saw him positively as a man who saved Germany.
And while this modern propaganda about how Putin is new Hitler is ridiculous, it's kinda easy to see where is that coming from.

France and chamberlain didn't want war. Especially BC they thought Hitler was right on the issue. However, the question is why did they care about danzig?

At that point it seemed like neither side could trust each other any longer and both were preparing to strike first to get the head start.

After Danzig Germany officially became a threat to the rest of the European powers and with their neutrality with Russia in Poland it would be to risky to let them continue their military building in case of a full scale war with Germany and possibly Russia in the future.

It was not. Sure, it became far-right dictatorship, but it was out of necessity and homegrown tendencies rather than due to germans installing it. Not to mention that their relationship with Germany was still a tension at the brink of war that ended with forced slovak separation and dissolvment of the state.

Even the eventual annexation widely presented as somewhat peaceful was result of hitler putting tremendous pressure on the czechoslovak president - and actually causing him to suffer three heart attacks within few hours (about Hácha - He just would not give up, chances are that the german occupation would be much harsher without his sometimes futile attempts at resisting nazis.) - during their nightlong meeting in Berlin. And it was accompanied by several armed clashes between uninformed czechoslovak army units and invading german armies
