Elder Futhark is the oldest, and largest form of runes, in use probably around the time of Christ. This was simplified during the 7th and 8th centuries into the younger futhark, which remained in use throughout the middle ages and in altered form in Dalarna till the 1900s. Futhorc is the Anglo-Saxon form, lacking staves and such. In addition there are a few types of encoded runes which mamipulate lines and dashes to indicate a letter of the 3 groups of 8.

Basically Elder Futhark is the best.
