Other from the occasional muslim country in the north, were there any actual nations in Africa before colonization? How big was population before white men settled in Africa? What about density? Did white men actually strip black africans from their lands or did native africans live in small groups spread throughout the continent?

>were there any actual nations in Africa before colonization
yes, many
but what do you consider an "actual nation"

Something organized, with thousands of people. Not just small village or tribe.

Nothing sophisticated enough that there's all that much documentation of it, save for European and Arab explorers who went there. They had some "nations" sure, (although the subjectivity of that term gets in the way) but ultimately they were just one tribe that became bigger that the rest, they never ventured outside of their respective portion of Africa.

probably hundreds or thousands of them by that definition, considering how many bantu agricultural societies with hierarchies and thousands of people existed upon colonialist expansion. the negligence of recording history in written form made sure you'll never hear about 99% of it. Djenne was producing iron and pumping strong in sub-saharan africa in 250 BC. smdh that sub saharan africa didn't have a widespread written language. smdh that the spanish burnt aztec libraries. two places we could've had a lot more to read about from.
>It's the daily Africa thread
Do you guys ever get tired of asking the same damn questions and getting the same answers, day after day, week after week?
You don't develop a complex society and system of accounting and law without writing. Your economy doesn't develop without written contracts.
What the various African kingdoms were I don't know but you can't call them empires in the real sense.

The Songhai had Arabic script so they, and everyone that came after them in the same general area, should count.

I can't tell if it's either people who legitimately know nothing about Africa because sub-saharan Africa is basically irrelevant and none of it is ever taught in school, or if it's just /pol/tards baiting for the "no there was no civilization before white people cuz niggers r dum" replies they want to hear.
no there was no civilization before white people cuz niggers r dum

OP here, actually don't know shit about Africa

You forgot the "_" before Kingdom and Empire
>>1913646
>were there any actual nations in Africa before colonization?
yes
>How big was population before white men settled in Africa?
Not big compared to today, or compared to Europe in the 19th century
>What about density?
Dense in some areas, not in others.
>Did white men actually strip black africans from their lands
yes
>or did native africans live in small groups spread throughout the continent?
some lived in small groups, some lived in cities, others lived in between.

>smdh that sub saharan africa didn't have a widespread written language.
There are fuckloads of books sitting in Timbuktu waiting to be translated. Likewise in Ethiopia. Al Qaeda burnt a lot of them but most of them are still there.
