>hey greece check out this awesome Iliad fanfiction we wrote

is it worth reading? i just finished reading the Iliad and the Odyssey so i'm looking for something similar. But i read somewhere that the Aeneid is more like a subtle commentary about the Rome of Virgil's time. That, and calling Zeus Jupiter is blasphemy

Don't get me wrong, it's a great book, but there are flaws. I'd say that the commentary on current Rome is not subtle, instead he beats you over the head with it. For example, Aeneas is a perfect personification of Roman values, but he's also boring as fuck because of it. Also, he's boring (and makes you root for his arch enemy) because he's never in real danger because the gods protect him constantly.

I think it' so fucking weird how all of the ancient world from Spain to italy the Balkans (and later even fucking England and Ireland) claimed to be descendants of a small Anatolian town with 2000-3000 inhabitants in it.

thanks for the reply. guess i have to learn more about Rome 30 BC before i'll tackle it
>>

Also, the Roman's didn't really steal gods (for the most part). They had gods, and saw that greeks had their own, so they associated their own gods with greek.

It's strange. They claim that Trojans originated in Italy, went to Anatolia, then came back to Italy.
