/his/ has made me painfully aware of how little history I actually know about. My entire life is a lie.
the romans basically win at human civilization
the italians are a poor substitute

the other day I read that the sun, a type G star or "yellow dwarf", is actually white and only appears yellow because of distortion from the atmosphere. I immediately looked up a picture of the sun from space to confirm this and incredibly its true.
That made me feel like my entire life is a lie.
Anyway back on topic my favorite empire is probably Egypt, because of how drastically far ahead they were compared to just about everyone else during the old and middle kingdom. Did you know that more time passed between the building of the pyramids at Giza and the birth of Cleopatra than has passed between the death of Cleopatra and today? You read about how the middle kingdom recovered from a dark age and rebuilt their empire 1600 years before the golden age of athens. That's quite impressive to me.
But my favorite civilization is America. I may be a bit biased since its the one I live in, but I find it's unique ability to attract the best and brightest from every other civilization on Earth and seamlessly integrate them to be an inspiring strength.
