it's a war ya dingus
during a war you put an mg on anything that can mount it
Okay, here's the real answer.
Sidecar troops were modern dragoons to work in tandem with other mechanized warfare. They carried a MG team of infantry. The MG was not permanently attached to the sidecar. It just gave the gunner a place to put it and use it on the move if needed. The sidecar was first and foremost infantry transportation.

so basically a chariot

No, not a chariot. You fight in chariots. Tanks are closer to chariots. Sidecars are dragoons

Celts used chariots pretty much exclusively for rapid troop movements.

Quite a few cultures used chariots as a dragoon role, or to aid in a quick escape after fighting on foot.
Epic WW2 Motorcycle article here:
In the East the cyclist's lot was not light
And I often believe the prophet was right,
When I saw cyclist engulfed in the flood,
Trying to free his machine from the mud.
And when I saw the man around Riga again,
A frustrated cyclist, with puzzled brain,
Stood there with a cycle that just wouldn't start
A load on his mind and a pain in his heart.
The man said: "Your faith is delusion, of course.
You can only depend on the great iron horse,
Or a horse with a saddle, if not trains around,
In no other way can you cover this ground.
