In Orthodoxy, the veneration comes first, canonization just means giving the saint an official place in the Church's history.

Venerating holy men is quite common in the Old Testament. As for canonizing them, that's part of what makes the Church a continuous whose history and holy men, martyrs and miracles doesn't just terminate with the end of the NT, but is ongoing and continued from there to today.

It is my opinion that veneration of relics is wrong.

God alone, and not some relic is due worship and reverence.

And yes it also says that one celebrates his Martydom at a set time to have fellowship with him. Funny I thought saints were dead but he appeared and embraced the brethren
