Rome had no heirs, only wannabe successor states. You had countless kings and emperors claiming to have set up a "new Rome" but their empire was never anywhere near as glorious.

I have been to the old royal palace in Madrid. It's completely full of Greco-roman statues and art in general. One of the kings even had a special Roman style armor for ceremonies.
