What countries are the heir of the Roman Empire?
>inb4 Finland
>>1900475
>implying a classical empire had an heir and not just claimants
How can the Byzantine Empire even compete?
>>1900514
By not having such an autistic "empire" made up of a hodgepodge of states governed in different way with different rules and being de facto independent.
>>1900475
Spain because Isabella and Ferdinand bought their titles.
Saudi Arabia
>>1900557
Is it because they still crucify people?
>>1900569
>dress in sheets and sandals
>conservative, religious, and militaristic
>constantly at war with the Persians
>harsh public punishments like crucifixions and lashings
>see everyone else (even fellow Muslims) as naturally inferior
>build everything out of white marble
>>1900600
Hey... He actually makes a good point. Never thought of it like that. Thanks anon.
>>1900600
new theory right here
Catholic Europe east of the Croatia-Bosnia border. They're the heirs to the Western traditions, at least.
>>1900600
Nevermind, it's this.
>>1900600
>>1900475

Romania
>>1900475
Most directly, turkey . As much as I hate to admit it
>>1902125
>>1901213
Feels good, man
All jokes aside, it's America.
At which Rome we are right now? The seventh?
>>1902117
Too bad I can't read the writing

Rankings of Roman Empireness
True Successor tier
France (west francia is objectively better then east francia even if the pope did declare the HRE because it remained one nation and didn't turn into a fucking clusterfuck, Also it was a core region of rome.)
Turkey/Ottomans (muh constantinople and pretty much being as extant as the byzantium emperor)
Russia (muscovy married some relative of the last byzantium emperor and russia is a pretty badass empire)
Secondary Claimant tier
Austria (because we all know it's the real heir of the HRE being emperor for so long)
Italy (it's the current ruler of the central roman lands)
Minor Claimant tier
Finland (via post soviet-bullshit)
Germany (kinda-soughta heir of east francia)
Vatican City (for being the heir to the papal states)
I Mean I Guess You Are Roman tier
Georgia (ally of byzantium)
Serbia (see serbian empire)
Britain (empires has nothing to do with each other but they claim it anyways)
Bulgaria (i guess tri-morea counts for something right?)
>>1902183
>to true successor tier
Sorry, fixed.
objective tier list here
/his/ agrees dont bother him about it
>>1902175
I'm honestly puzzled how come you didn't even mention Greece when the ERE was more Greek based and Greeks themselves were reffered to as Romans until the 19th century
>>1900475
France
But it is Finland.
And it doesn't even admit discussion
>>1900514
>Holy
>Roman
>Empire
>>1902230
>greece
crypto-turks having a nineteenth century identity crisis carving out a chunk of polity from a dying Turkey does not a roman empire make
>>1902129
This
>>1902458
>crypto-turks
yeah stopped reading right there, apply yourself
>>1902223
as Italian, I find this truly accurate, my dear bug-friend.
>>1902606
but anon is right about that
>>1902230
Modern greeks give absolutely zero fucks about Byzantium, all they care about is Athens and Sparta. To them, history goes like
>Ancient Greece, Athens, Sparta, Plato, Diogenes
>Alexander The Great
>????????
>modern Greece
>>1902791
This is absolutely false. Maybe American greeks.
>>1900534
This.
>>1900514
>mfw with London,Scotland and Northern Ireland leaving Britbong will be the new HRE
>>1900600
except for the last bit you could be talking about China. Nice try.
>>1900475
None. Europe is like a collection of distant Grand Cousins to the Empire essentially.
United States, its a true spiritual successor.
There are no direct successors.
>>1902791
you are mentally retarded
In Greek schools multiple books are dedicated to explaining Byzantine history to Greek students.
>>1902223
Kill yourself
THE Roman Empire 27 BC - 395 AD
The heirs being:
The Western Roman Empire 395 - 476
The Eastern Roman Empire 395 - 1204 or 1453
That's it.
>>1903270
Finally a decent human being.
>>1902175
>putting Bulgaria at the last place on that retarded list, even after meme countries like choices like Serbia or Britain or Georgia or fucking Finland even though the Bulgarian capital was literally the first one called the Third Rome
And to avoid autists getting triggered - there is no real third Rome.
Rome had no heirs, only wannabe successor states. You had countless kings and emperors claiming to have set up a "new Rome" but their empire was never anywhere near as glorious.
>>1900600
>>1900475
The Ottomans
>>1900475
Poland-Lithuania
>>1900475
>What countries are the heir of the Roman Empire?
Western Civilization as a whole was built from the Roman Empire.
>>1903279
Ye, but that was for about 5 miliseconds before Tarnovo and th B*lgars in general getting cucked by the T*rks. Also, the Byzantine Empire wasn't even killed yet.
So the honor goes to Russia until 1917 and then to Finland. So Finland, as per usual, wins.
I have been to the old royal palace in Madrid. It's completely full of Greco-roman statues and art in general. One of the kings even had a special Roman style armor for ceremonies.
Rome is the true original empire that everyone wants to emulate.
>>1900475
There can be governmental rump states like Byzantium, but empires don't have "heirs" unless whatever ethnicity that started it does so again.
>>1904762
Mussolini?
>>1900600
I don't want to acknowledge this. but these are fair points.
