I always get depressed when looking at WW1 and 2 photos, especially of the germans. millions fighting and dying in a doomed war sort of does that I guess
>>1890164
Who even takes these kinds of picture? didnt it take a while to take a picture in the 1910s? So was the photographer just standing 20 feet away with machine gun fire flying over his head?

>hurr its too hard to hold still for a fraction of a second

>>1899354
Looks to late in the year to be in Normandy. Unless they're just screwing around in full-combat gear in '43. I'd take a guess that this is Belgium or Western Germany in late '44 or early '45.

>during the battles: Munich, a loyal East African fighter, at the time Freikorps Lettow Vorbeck
The picture was taken during the suppression of the Munich Soviet Republic 1919. After the war there were socialist movements and overthrows in all of Germany, patriotic Freikorps from WW1 veterans managed to stop them.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bavarian_Soviet_Republic
The German Askaris were considered very loyal and some of them even fought in Germany after the war. As their commander Paul Lettow Vorbeck died in the sixties, many Askaris flew to Germany to take part in his funeral. All German governments after the Empire (Weimar, Third Reich, Bundesrepublik) payed them their pensions, until the last Askari died in the nineties.
My picture shows some more "traditional" looking Bavarian Freikorps.

As I recall it has great resamblance with the interior of the Völkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig, which was built even before the first world war. However, a GI in Leipzig seems odd.
>>1902328
Why? US forces captured Leipzig and they gave it to the Soviet

IIRC this was published after both the Yamato and Musashi were sunk, but they seemed to have thought that there might be a third Yamato-class battleship in service, possibly Shinano which in reality was being converted into an aircraft carrier.

When I see things like this I wonder how bad must things be to commit suicide? Many civilians and soldiers seemed to kill themselves at the end of the war simply because their society was collapsing and they couldn't face a world after nazism.
They wouldn't be put on trial, nor suffer torture or mistreatment (admittedly some killed themselves to avoid the brutality of the red army), but for others the despair drove them to kill themselves. I can't imagine that.

God damn is the third from left laughing?
